State of Siege: The Gesture of Collecting
Palau Hall, Alberic
October CCC, Valencia
Portalea Hall, Eibar
Objects, once fundamental for reading the world, are now distorted. It is not just the collapse of representative institutions like family or church, but our relationship with objects has changed. In this space, the objects of collectors are no longer displayed, focusing instead on the bond these collectors have with them, transforming them into the objects themselves. The intention is for desire to fall upon the objects, not their visibility, highlighting the intimate relationship between the collector and their collection, following Karl Marx’s theory of "commodity fetishism," where objects acquire meaning through desire and social dynamics¹⁴.
